Spring 09' Fishing
WINDY - WINDY- WINDY. The weather has plagued the southern coast of NC with consistent winds in the 15-25 knot range. Its been a long time since I have seen the wind blow so hard for so long. Only a handful of weekends have allowed boats to venture offshore. When boats have been able to sneak out the fishing has been really good. Last month boats were catching plenty of wahoos and blackfins. Recently gaffer mahis have been available. The crew of the REEL JIM managed a 150# swordfish caught 85 miles out a few weekends back. Boats in Morehead and Hatteras have seen and hooked a few Blue Ones this past week. These fish should be showing up off Wrightsville any time know. Jigging for Grouper on the edge of the Gulf Stream has been productive and bottom fishing 20-30 miles has been good.
