Rumors of Bonita...
Fishing is firing off again with the passing of the Easter Holiday cold front. It was great seeing some old friends over the Easter holiday, Ollie Smith of Blue Ridge Anglers in Boone, NC was down here with his family as was Cameron Barker and it was a real treat catching up as always.
The latest is there is a strong concentration of Bonita showing up in the mouth of the New River Inlet and the bite is definitely an early morning event with the fishing slowing down after 7:30am. Don't sweat it if this is bad news and you can't get there to fish because there are scattered reports of anglers catching fish on and off of the Liberty Ship straight out of Masonboro Inlet to the North.
If you were surprised to hear that the blue fin showed up the other day think of how surprised the Bonita were to find out the blue fin were in town... Try fishing Maria jigs in 14grams or 7 grams in pink or blue as well as sting silvers and hydrometal jigs of the same color. I like a 7'6" medium action Lamiglas in the 8-17 lb. range for long distance casts and sure fire hook ups.
Give Captain's Stuart Caulder, Jon Huff or Lee Parsons a call for charter availability to chase these wonderful game fish.
Good luck and Good Fishing!
